Carcass scraps, including human remains, fed to British cows in 1960s and 70s
NewScientist magazine has reported in its latest edition that cows may have caught "mad cow disease" after eating the remains of people who died of the related human prion disease CJD. An investigation team found that the UK imported hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carcass scraps in the 1960s and 70s for use in cattle feed and fertiliser. Nearly half of these shipments came from India and it was known that they included human remains collected from partly cremated bodies found in rivers.
This gruesome news should be making millions of British people throw up at the mere thought. Bon appetit...
